Fragrance Review: NEST New York

A while back, I bought this NEST New York fragrance gift set during a sale Sephora was running. I love gift sets because not only do they make great gifts, but they’re a great way to try a variety of different scents and see which ones you like best! It’s been a while since my last fragrance blog post, so I figured I would review this set for you and give you a feel for the scents of these eight different fragrances. While this set seems to no longer be available on the Sephora website, I did find a similar one here.

I also want to note that all the bottles are actually mini rollerballs, which is kind of uncommon for sets like these but I absolutely love and much prefer over a coffret.

1. Black Tulip by NEST New York

If you’re looking for the perfect date night scent, look no further. This is such a feminine, inviting, warm floral scent that I envision being worn by the independent, well-dressed corporate woman who has her life together and knows who she is on her Friday night out on the town. This fragrance has key notes of black amber plum, pink pepper, and Japanese violet and is definitely one of my stand outs in the whole set.

2. Dahlia & Vines by NEST New York

I’m not going to lie… this isn’t my favorite scent in this set. It’s not bad by any means, but I just find it a tad underwhelming. It’s a pretty, powdery floral scent that I can see being worn by either someone youthful and girly or mature and feminine. Some of its notes include peony, rose, and lychee. I just find it a bit conventional and boring as far as florals go, but it would make a really nice everyday scent in the springtime.

3. Wild Poppy by NEST New York

Wild Poppy is a bit more exciting in my opinion because it has a sweetness to it. In a nutshell, I’d describe it as as sugary floral. If you like Daisy Love Eau So Sweet by Marc Jacobs, then I think you’d like this one too. This fragrance has notes of rose, Himalayan jasmine, pear, raspberry and apricot. It particularly strikes a chord for me because this smells like an exact high-end dupe for this old Victoria’s Secret body mist called Such a Flirt that I wore every single day one summer years ago. Scent memory is a powerful thing. Naturally, I think this is the perfect summertime fragrance that I envision being worn by someone who is carefree, spontaneous, and fun. It’s for the girl who lives in the moment so she’ll have a million incredible memories to look back on later.

4. Midnight Fleur by NEST New York

This one is fiercely competing to be my favorite in this giftset. I just know my description isn’t going to do it justice, and while I’m gonna try anyway, I highly recommend that your next shopping trip include a trip to a fragrance counter or beauty retailer to smell this for yourself. Midnight Fleur smells mysterious and has a smokiness to it. It’s like a darker and sexier older sister to Black Tulip. With notes of amber, patchouli, exotic woods, vanilla orchid, and green apple, this is for the badass woman with secrets who has lived a lot of life but doesn’t share it with just anybody. This is the fragrance worn by the woman you see at an exclusive after party that you just want to know more about because she’s so alluring but you’re intimidated by her so you never approach her. You miss your window of opportunity and then she disappears, but you’re still thinking about her for the next week and a half. I’m obsessed.

5. Wisteria Blue by NEST New York

This is for my people who prefer fresh fragrances, so if that sounds like you, this would be the one I would check out in this set. Wisteria Blue can be described as a clean, crisp, fresh floral. It has notes of French wisteria, water, Bulgarian rose, and jasmine. It’s not my personal favorite, but mostly because I tend to gravitate toward vanilla, amber, and spicy gourmand scents over fresh and aquatic. That being said I do enjoy this fragrance and I can see myself wearing it as an everyday scent. It reminds me of calm rain in the spring – clean, serene, and comforting.

6. Sunkissed Hibiscus by NEST New York

Sunkissed Hibiscus is another one of my standout favorites, but it’s very different than some of the others. The only way I can describe this fragrance is that it smells like what I imagine literal sunshine to smell like. If someone could bottle the scent of me standing in a field overflowing with flowers with my eyes closed and hot summer sun warming my face, it would be this fragrance. Notes of this fragrance include frangipani, orange blossom, and golden amber. This is the perfect warm, peaceful summer scent, and I truly can’t get enough of it.

7. Indigo by NEST New York

This one has absolutely given me the hardest time when I try to describe it to people because I really can’t tell what it smells like, but that’s what I love about it. If you’re looking for a complex scent with lots of layers, this is a great one for you. My first impression of this fragrance was way off and just completely confused, so I had no choice but to research it simply because I wanted to know what it was. I found out that the notes are a mix of bergamot, spice, some citrus, and a woodiness, which started to make sense after the fact. I really don’t have anything like this in my collection. It’s so interesting and I really like it. Out of all the scents in this set, this one by far is the most successful in complexity, intrigue, and leaving an impression.

8. Citrine by NEST New York

A picture of the travel size fragrance Citrine from NEST New York Fragrances on a gray background surrounded by silver jewelry.

This one is like Sunkissed Hibiscus’s less intense friend and the more interesting friend of Dahlia & Vines. Citrine is a warm and inviting citrus floral scent with notes of lemon blossom, freesia, lotus flower, and morning dew. It’s also super versatile. I can see myself wearing this day-to-day but also to an event or night out. If you’re looking for a signature scent to take you through everyday, no matter the occasion, then this is one to heavily consider.
