In case you are someone who doesn’t follow every single made-up holiday that is mostly used as an excuse for a cute (sometimes tacky) Instagram post, then you might not have known that last Wednesday was National Lipstick Day.
As someone who works in a retail beauty setting, I’m not allowed to not know that.
Coincidentally, I have an unhealthy collection of lip products. Like, it’s really bad. I swear that at one point I owned an average, normal amount, but somewhere along the way I lost possession of the self-control it took to stop me from buying every liquid lipstick that Tarte makes.
One might call it an addiction. Some might say an intervention should be staged.
It’s really more of a passion – a hobby, if you will. At least, that’s what I tell myself so I can sleep at night instead of lying awake for hours on end with regrets.
In honor of National Lipstick Day, I thought it might be fun to show you guys five of my top favorite lipsticks of all time. And since I own so many, trust me it was a bit of challenge, but there are a handful I notice get a little more love than some of the rest.
I’m talking just lipsticks here by the way. Don’t get me started on the entire bag full of glosses currently sitting on my dresser.

1. Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Insanity ($19)
This is probably the most used lipstick in my entire collection. It has a place right on top of my dresser (and in my heart). I love that it’s a cream finish, so it doesn’t dry out your lips or look flat.

It’s a perfect peachy nude color that I can just throw on any day, but also wear it with a gloss or just on the center of my lips for a plump, ombre effect.

2. Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Bestie ($20)
This is an oldie but a goodie. I definitely own way too many of these, but this one is my favorite. It dries down matte (as the name says) and I would definitely prep your lips by exfoliating and moisturizing. It has great staying power throughout the day though.

This is a great cool-neutral type of nude shade. I’ve noticed it wears a little differently on people depending on the natural tones on their lips. I seriously used to wear this one all the time.

3. Clinique Dramatically Different Lipstick in Raspberry Glace ($19.50)
This lipstick is one that I didn’t expect to love as much as I do. It is super hydrating and nourishing on the lips and rich in pigment.

But the color though. It looks a little deep here, but it’s literally the most stunning frosted purple-pink. It’s almost like a vibrant, shimmer berry shade. You wouldn’t think it’s an everyday, wearable shade, but it’s so easy to rock day to day and brings a little life to your face with a pop of color.

4. BECCA Ultimate Lipstick Love in Tawny ($24)
I’m not gonna lie… I have bought several of these at a time. They’re my most recent discovery and I just love everything about them from the finish to how they feel on my lips.

This shade in particular happens to be the one I use and love the most. It was a very calculated purchase and I stared at the in-store display for a solid thirty minutes before deciding. It’s a beautiful neutral brown-nude. Great for everyday and I usually wear this when I want something a little cooler and deeper than my Urban Decay one.

5. Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Audition ($21)
This one is a go-to when I want something muted enough to wear everyday, but I’m sick of my brown neutral shades. I can’t explain how much I love this formula and color.

I struggle to find good pink shades to complement my skin tone. I wish I could pull off girly, bubblegum pinks, but I just can’t. This lip product is how I cheat my way there though. It’s definitely a pink, but the hint of rosy mauve tones in it make it wearable enough that I can pull it off. And I’ve clearly taken advantage of that given how worn down my tube is looking in this photo.
Here’s all five of my faves swatched so you can get a better idea of the colors.
